Changing the Face of School Fundraising
What is Power For Schools and How does it work?
What is Power For Schools?
Power for Schools is
an innovative alternative to the traditional school fundraising method
that asks students to sell products to parents and people in the community.
Putting children on the streets to sell products is not safe. And, most
parents and school supporters will tell you that they would welcome
an end to the annual sales of candy, candles, wrapping paper, magazines,
cookie dough and other products they neither want nor need. For many
parents, these fund raisers are a financial burden. Power For Schools
eliminates the negative aspects of selling products, yet still meets
the fundraising goals of schools. Power For Schools offers the
following advantages:
- A service that school supporters need and use every day at the best available price
- Monthly, year-round income for the schools
- No participation costs to schools or their supporters
- No time-consuming fundraising tasks for teachers and staff members
- An easy-to enroll process
Finally, no more buying
unwanted products! Now parents and school supporters can raise money
for their favorite school through the electricity they use every day
and there is no additional cost to them or the school. Teachers and
staff members no longer have to deal with distributing products and
collecting money. And, children are not out on the street trying to
sell products.
How does it work?
Several major electric
providers have agreed to offer their best available rates to school
supporters and to make a monthly contribution for each supporter who
signs up through the program and designates a school to receive the
contribution. School supporters can find information about the participating
electric providers on the Power For Schools Web site, www.powerforschools.org. After comparing the rates and terms of
the providers, supporters can make a decision about which plan is best
for them. Parents and supporters then enroll using the school ID code
to direct a monthly contribution from the electric provider to the selected
school.
School supporters can
also enroll by telephone. If you enroll by telephone, please remember
to use the school ID code. If the school ID code is not used, the
school will not receive a monthly contribution for your account.
If you are currently in a contract with an electric provider, please check the terms and conditions of that contract to ensure there are no cancellation penalties. If penalties exist, it may not be to your advantage to switch electric providers until your present contract expires. We want you to help your school, but we do not want you to incur any additional cost or inconvenience when doing so.
